Who is Theodore?
A Sudden Shock.
Theodore was born in 1884 to a wealthy family who made their money through the rail and shipping industry. He inherited Willside Manor when he was twenty-three and was the owner for 5 years before he died suddenly in 1912, leaving the manor to his younger brother Silas.
Theo doesn’t remember how he died or even the date it happened. One morning he woke up, went to open a door, and his hand just passed through the handle. When he then looked down, he noticed he wasn’t standing on the ground but rather floating. A feeling of shock engulfed Theo, he ran through the door and downstairs to find Silas in the hall. He yelled out to Silas panicked, but Silas didn’t react, he didn’t even notice him. Shaken by what was happening, he walked around the house anxiously, touching various objects and walls only to have his body pass through everything he met. Theo walked outside and paced up and down the deck before walking down the driveway, it was long before something stopped him though, as if an invisible wall was preventing him from walking off the property. Completely distraught it wasn’t until that evening when he heard Silas talking to his wife about “Theo’s funeral”, that he realised he had died.
How does one adapt to life as a ghost? What is next? How does he move on? Theo had so many questions and no one to talk to.
As time passed Theo eventually adjusted to life as a ghost. He learnt if he focused hard enough, he could interact with objects. Theo loved to read and was determined to open a book. He started off simple, pushing cushions off the couch and flipping the corner of the rug up. Eventually he learnt how to carry out more intricate movements, like turning door handles. After almost a year of hard work Theo could pick up, open, and turn pages in books. This made Theo’s days far more interesting. The manor had a large collect of books, so he spent a great deal of time making his way through the family collection, there wasn’t exactly anyone to talk to, so this was an excellent way for Theo to pass time.
In the year 1919 however, Theo finally found a friend. George had died 53 years ago at age 38. Unlike Theo George wasn’t tied to a building, but a person. He followed his grandson everywhere, who happened to be one of Silas’s friends. Initially when Theo saw George, he thought he was just another living breathing human. George on the other hand knew that Theo was just as dead as him. Theo hadn’t spoken to anyone in almost a decade so naturally he couldn’t believe his luck. George provided a lot of insight to Theo explaining that there is something keeping him here. There was a reason he couldn’t leave the house. He just needed to find what that reason was. One Hundred and five years later, Theo is still looking for the answer!
